Kathleen W. FitzGerald

In addition to this work, Dr. FitzGerald has written Brass: Jane Byrne and the Pursuit of Power (Contemporary Books), The Good Sisters (Contemporary Books) and has edited both Whatever Happened to the Good Sisters? and Women in AA: Personal Stories (Whales Tale Press). 

Dr. FitzGerald is a frequent contributor to the Chicago Tribune (Perspective) and has been published in Newsweek, New Age Magazine, Professional Counselor; Alcoholism and Addiction, and Christian Century.

In 1988, she founded The Institute for Recovery in Lake Forest, Illinois, a private practice specializing in addictions, adult child of alcoholics, codependency, sexual abuse, depression, spirituality, relapse prevention and intervention. The Institute works with families, children, couples and groups.

Dr. FitzGerald is a trained interventionist, writer, therapist, public speaker and retreat facilitator. She has appeared on national television and radio and has addressed university, political, professional, church and social groups. She received her doctorate from Northwestern University in Education and Social Policy.

A mother and grandmother, Kathleen has been in recovery from Jellinek’s Disease since 1978, one day at a time.
